Opinions on this as a dress watch?

Im in the market for a dress watch, and Im thinking I want something vintage, and a bit different.

Im still thinking in terms of usual dress watch dogma-- smaller, simple, thin, etc

Any thoughts on this one?

It's a bit boring for a PP -- looks like a knock-off.

This is my favorite PP.

Even though it's a PP, I don't like it.

It reminds me of the classic question. If it weren't a ( place a famous expensive brand here ) would you still be interested in it?

It's kind of cool in a minimalist way and seems vaguely like a predecessor to the famed Movado numberless classic, though the Patek is clearly a vintage watch.

The Movado:

Thats exactly what I like about it-- minimalist, with a bit of a mid century vibe...

I love it.

It's a beautiful vintage two-hander, ideal for a dress watch. It looks great in the photo, and would look better on a wrist.

I much prefer it over either the movado or the other Patek. To my eye, the textured gold bezel looks cheap on that Patek, as do the big ben roman numerals. Maybe it's the photo, but I don't think it can hold a candle to the classiness of the vintage one. I like the extreme minimalism and hidden lugs on the vintage.

Would love to own it!

Keep in mind that vintage timepieces and especially Pateks are very very costly to own. The movements are delicate, parts very hard to source especially Pateks which only sell parts to authorized dealers, expensive just to maintain properly. Years ago, a highly reputable and recommended independent watchmaker advised me to stay away from vintage Pateks unless you had deep pockets. I would recommend other vintage makers if you still have your heart set on vintage dress timepieces and look for IWC, JLC, Audemars Piguet. These brands are truly authentic with beautiful movements and handwork.

It's very 60s-ish (read: Movado "Museum"), but that doesn't bother me if you have others to wear. Calatravas are the norm, but with Roman numerals, tend to look a bit over the top with jeans, etc. FWIW, I have a vintage Hamilton 14k (can't remember model name) that is almost identical, and you could get one of those for <1/10th the price.

If your question is: Is this good for an everyday, all-purpose piece? I'd say sure, it has a distinctive contemporary styling that lowers the formality a bit. But wearing a Patty, especially a vintage piece, 24/7 seems rather risky, (and I have a watchmaker who loves working on them and can get parts). He's CLA'd mine several times--but also compares my vintage IWCs to them favorably too....wink, wink, hint, hint

No, this wouldnt be daily wear-- my daily wear is usually an Omega Plant Ocean on a bracelet, or a a vintage chrono on various straps-- hence my looking for something thin and simple...

Im not dead set on a patek at all, but the price on this one is quite reasonable, and I appreciate the styling. I had a vintage Hamilton Ventura for awhile, but eventually tired of it.

Im happily open to other suggestions with pics.

Watch is OK, but maybe the situation with the lugs is not so great. How does that strap attach? Looks kind of bunchy.

Actually, as I look at your picture more closely, is that a re-dial? I'm guessing this is a 1960s watch. Face is crisp, perhaps too crisp. I'm curious as to why there isn't some verbage just below the six o'clock position. That's where I'd expect to see something about "Swiss made" or "t - Swiss blah blah." If I had to bet, I'd say the face of this watch has been recreated by a painter. It's missing some small details, I think.

If you own it, then good enough. It's a decent looking watch. If you're thinking of buying it, don't pay Patek dollars for it. I don't think it's entirely right.

Good luck.
