the arabic numbers make it a little less formal than say roman numerals. having said that i think it's ok.
stowa it's a solid quality watch that you'll have for years and i think that model is versatile enough to wear at the office with a suit or out and about with jeans/khakis etc. on the other hand would not wear that to a black tie event. just my $ 0.02

Dial-wise it certainly isn't a bad pick, but the size might be a problem. How big are your wrists? The Stowa Marine is not that small with 42mm if I recall correctly.

In that price range as a first dress watch I, personally would go with an Antea Kleine Sekunde:

I recently bought one of these after looking at the same watch for 30 years! It is the smaller one (Antea 365?), w/ a dark brown croc band....

Stowa Marine Automatic = 40mm

Stowa Marine Original (Mechanical/Handwound) = 41mm

I don't get a dress watch vibe from Stowas at all - I think casual with jeans...

But I suppose it depends on what you mean by dressed up.

Wearing my Marine Automatic today. The thing I like about it is that it crosses the line between casual and dress very easily. It's very versatile
