I had to cancel my appointment with Pastena. I have some personnel stuff to do next weekend so I won’t be able to make it.

CAID = machine made suit

that’s why his suits are cheaper than his competitors in Tokyo
Yes Caid uses machine for long straight seams, which literally 95% of tailors do. Caid also uses machine for edge/pipe stiches to get the old ivy/brooks brother style effect. Trousers are machined stitched for durability.

Lapels, as well as most of the jacket, are hand stitched.

I don't see your point since a lot of Japanese tailors have 2 pricing, regular bespoke that has machine stitches and senza machina. Caid prices are in line with normal Japanese bespoke. Senza machine usually runs $3,500+.

Bummer. Were you meeting in Naples, or does he do trunk shows? I also saw that he has an online operation...is that legit?

Personally, I like handmade button holes, and finishing but for a lot a of the other parts of a garment I am not as picky about. 99.99% of the population don't care either.

In all honesty, I am a bit frustrated with bespoke. I've been a bit annoyed by some of the bespoke commissions I've had done. One suit being unwearable despite numerous alterations, another that has a collar that is crooked. Can and will these be fixed? Maybe. Hopefully. But it is annoying to keep following up on some basic things and my time is valuable.

Out of 6 bespoke suits and 1 jacket made by various respected British tailors, I really enjoy the jacket and maybe two suits and one suit which I've fallen out of favor with due to changes in styling preferences, but in that case, I acknowledge that's on me.

Which means the other four suits are just a waste of about $12K in any meaningful terms. When tailors get a bespoke suit right it is fantastic but it's a lot of trial and error on each order and sometimes with the same tailor.

I may just do MTM with handfinished details, Most interested parties in the US anyway, appreciate a well cut suit in a nice fabric, and some nice finishing but that's about it.

It can be incredibly hit or miss. I tried a traveling bespoke tailor who is very popular on SF and has made great garments for people but the suit made for me was awful. I could not figure out how there could be such a discrepancy. I’ve had a local tailor make me an outstanding jacket - and then everything after that had major problems.

Sartoria Carrara MTM from NMWA is what you want.
