Not to relish in throwing more gasoline but I purchased a Luca Avitabile popover shirt, a few moons ago, and it shrunk to the point of being one size down.
When I tried the shirt on at one of Simon's trunk shows, he personally advised me on the size and once the shirt on, he told me to stick to the size - which fitted before being washed, in fairness. It really revealed how little familiar he was with the products he was selling - literally there.
It is very difficult to remain entirely objective about a brand / product when one is not spending the whole amount for it or less, one would easily 'care less' about how well spent your money is.
I still used to read his blog until he wrote the article named "How I'd shop on a budget" where he would include a £6,000 Cartier watch in that very article, which is not even their first price. I would have personally advised something like a vintage Omega, Universal Geneve or a Nomos.
He goes on when he includes Crockett & Jones in that list which would retail around £500 back then, still a large chunk of change.
In my opinion, he has lost touch with reality and his social aspirations are what now drive his articles.
I do, however, sincerely appreciate that he has put 'underrated' craftsmen / brands to the attention of his audience.
