I think it's pretty clear from looking at various different posts of what people wear on here that the range of what people think is "good" is large. Some people wear middle-aged office worker and think it's good because it's "traditional" while others view it as boring. Some people look like they are cosplaying a different time. Others wear bright colors and different patterns that are questionable as well. Everyone is entitled to their own style though.
That was the point I was aiming for when I asked for examples of good dressers ( though I'm also always looking for new inspiration ). Theres an old saying about opinions and assholes, I think the key takeaway from this thread is not to become one while expressing yours.

I
Agreed, I also feel that many critiques are moved by hate and biased aversion rather than objectively founded reasons. I wonder why Simon seems to have so many haters.

Noburu Kakuta

Terry Corbett and Noburu Kakuta immediately come to my mind as good dressers.
To each his taste. For me Corbett is much to loud and flashy (pink suit as an example!). Kakuta I find okay, but I am not sure about the slim fit of his trousers and bare ankles, etc, especially for man his age.

I’m only talking about fit really. Critiquing his style is too subjective to be of value.

If you wear mostly bespoke, and know as much as he does, you should look great. Bruce Boyer is a “normal” guy, but he always looks great.

I do enjoy reading PS though and appreciate the huge amount of content he’s created.
Bruce Boyer, imo well dressed but very old fashioned. I (mid fourties) would look quite weird if I dressed like Boyer, imho.

Yeah that's the relativism. Holding on this perspective a bashing of SC and his take on style is kinda weird isn't it?

Saw Noboru Kakuta at Pitti this year, indeed very stylish gentleman. I think he just knows what works well for him and he embraces it. It's not boring to me, it's sophisticated actually!

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
