Actually, same here. I don't see myself getting enough wear out of it to justify it either ... but ... it's been long on my list of "I just have to have those" (and that list is actually pretty short these days). That said, I'm seriously looking forward to every opportunity I'll get to break 'em out.
Excellent!!! :fistbump:

That list for me includes a pair of shell cordovan Alden wingtip boots on plaza last. Again may not wear much but I want em. Most my boots are sw&d stuff these days not CM.

Citibank does the "price rewind" which is what you are describing, its super easy and you can manually submit a claim if the item is not in their database. see https://www.citipricerewind.com

So I just went and read that with a very skeptical eye and, I'm surprised, it looks like you could do exactly that. buy everything in your size, say a week/month before you know the sales are going to hit and then just sit back and file your claims. You'll have your items in your sizes and, granted with some time, get a refund on the difference. The examples in the video include a picture of women's shoes, so clearly we're talking about items that have varying stock based on sizes.

Credit card "Price Protection"?

I bought an expensive Billy Reid coat a couple weeks ago and the price dropped....I can still return it, but the retailer won't refund the difference and my size is sold-out so I can't just re-order another to save the $150.
This got me to thinking about using my Chase Freedom credit card's "price protection" to get the difference back. I'm not exactly sure if they honor 'discount codes' or how it works so I thought I'd reach out to this sub and see if anyone has been successful.
If it works it could be quite the benefit to this sub! It would definitely make cards that have this "price protection" the ones to use on clothing purchases. (Apparently my Chase card has this benefit, but my Capital one quicksilver doesn't)
chase sucks they require same size, just filed a price protection a few weeks ago and was denied. i used citi rewind last year, and iirc correctly they did not require the same size to be available. did it on a pair of geobaskets and rick owens pants... difference was ~$150 for each item.

Lucky me, those exact Alden's were one of my first boot purchases back after joining SF. And they've been massively useful - resoled twice I believe and the shell still looks divine.

You could almost say they were what started my whole boot descent... Lindricks, Ryder's, Sutors,etc.. all the way up to the Islay's.

And where's the money come from? Citi?

no, i think citi contracts out with a third party insurance provider (as do chase and discover--just filed PP with the latter and am awaiting a response). all three had me contact a different third party to file the claim; discover is probably the most convenient since they allow you to submit the screenshot of the advertisement online.

Dude I filed it against so many purchases last year and kept getting a few bucks back here and there. Note there is a cap of some sort I forget what. If you get a Citi card the double cash back and the thank you premier are the way to go.

Started with Alden, now I am on CCP, MA+, layer-0, a1923... Really fell in the rabbit hole.

For any Canadians out there, the Scotiabank AMEX offers the same type of protection. Purchase has to be full price, and there's a total dollar amount cap per year.

If your size is sold out that's pretty fucked up. You bought earlier and ensured you got your size.

Totally disagree. When you buy early to ensure your size is available, the trade-off is that it might get discounted further. The store is correct in not offering a price correction.

+1

Also really doesn't seem fair to the store, who missed out on an opportunity to sell the item to someone who wasn't going to cheat the system (and thus have better margins to stay in business).

I get that everyone wants stuff, and wants to pay the lowest price possible, but IMO it's good to think about how to support the stores that are giving you a better marketplace (better products, "curation," service, or whatever that might be).

When did consumers get so entitled as to thinking that price adjustments are a right, as opposed to just a customer service incentive that some stores choose to offer? I mean, I get that people want to save money, but you can't pretend for a minute that trying to do a price adjustment when your size is sold out, or on something you bought a month ago, etc, is ethically sound.
