VAT is European, not Canadian. Nomad is in Ontario, so you're likely looking at 13% tax. Shipping anything up here to the US is expensive too.

if nomad ships to the states they DO NOT charge 13% tax, you will pay the list price plus shipping to nomad. any duties or fees will be charged to you by the us border services

Lol at people thinking its the retailer's fault that they have to pay duties. You are paying tax to your government on an imported item. It's not Tres Bien or whoever exacting extra money from you.

How is it that people reserve items on gilt before the sales start? I can preview all the stuff that is going to be going on sale, and see the prices, but I can't actually click to see available sizes or add it to my cart.

Gilt reuses much of their stock, so when a particular items goes back on sale at gilt, people might have it waitlisted and/or have an old URL saved.

I never really understood how some of you guys ask retailers to do something illegal. Sometimes, places I've ordered from have done it, sometimes they haven't; I've never asked or assumed they'd do it.

Anyway, us Canadians get the ****** end of the stick a lot of times when it comes to clothing, so don't be too sad about your Nomad purchase.

This.

If you had to pay 25% VAT, plus tax and fedex/dhl/ups handling duties on top of that you'd be asking sellers to mark down too

Actually, I don't ever ask for anything to be marked down. I usually just want my stuff, and fast. To paraphrase Zissou, buy it, and like it. Paying $50 more or $50 less should not affect your enjoyment of an item any more. Do I like a deal? Yes. And do I sometimes let price deter me from buying something because it's just out of my comfort range? Sure. But let's not act so bloody entitled. Seriously.

The BTC site is acting up. Cannot log into my account.

Nevermind - I just remembered that I checkout as a guest when I use BTC.

  • It’s a mark of quality and craftsmanship
