Good choice. CPTPP is not made for consumer level import export. One of the provisions for the agreement is that it is what's called "yarn forward" that means that the materials for apparel need to have yarns+materials (but not fibres) originating in one of the countries covered in the agreement. I've no idea about the leather chapter and how that might pertain to duties and origin status, but it could be an impossibility to prove for you as a consumer. Not worth your time.

Well I learned my lesson to not buy something from a shop in Norway unless I’m 100% sure I’m gonna keep it!

anyone know of any japan shopping service/proxy that still allows clients to set a parcel value? none of the big leagues allow it, so it will have to be one of those small players that still act like they are a "mate" helping you out. i only know of sutocorp, but their service rate adds up for high ticket items.

Question on buying from a European company that also has an office in the US. Shipping is "free" over a certain amount but they list shipping and handling (which includes customs and duties) and they are also charging sales tax.

Is this the law? It feels like double taxation to me, I thought customs/duties basically replaced sales tax on items shipping from Europe. Taxes on a ~$1k item is $200. I messaged them and they said they just used to include the sales tax in the item price and would just charge customs/duties.

Not sure I believe them because this makes them more expensive than other sites and I don't see why US customers would buy anything unless it was discounted. I just bought some stuff from Matches at the end of last year and they charged sales tax but customs was included in the price.

Customs/Duty is at the federal level. Sales tax is at state/county/city level. Most locations, if you buy something while not local and bring it back you’re supposed to pay the difference in sales tax rate. (Look up “use tax”.) Of course approximately no one does this. They’re doing you a favor and keeping you honest /S.

Anyone recently order an item from the UK into Canada? I'm looking at a Barbour jacket, which I assume is made in England and trying to figure out if it should be covered under Canada UK-TCA. Thanks in advance!

I’m guessing less than half of Barbours are made in the UK.

Wondering if you completed this order? I have a shipment coming from Anglo Italian and I suspect I may have to pay some duties on it. Hoping they aren't too expensive.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
