I have two pairs of 4497 boots and two pairs of 2298 shoes and one pair of 325 shoes.

Where I'd say 4497 is a perfect fit for me, the 2298 is definitely narrower in the toe area. Also the heel seems somewhat more loose in the 2298, but that may also be due to being shoes instead boots.

Being somewhat critical I would rate the 4497 an 8 or 9 for my feet, and the 2298 a 6 or 7. Don't know about the 4444 last since I'm not sure if sizing down would fit me, and I'm not a huge fan of the chunky Bourton aesthetics or believing they offer something completely different compared to my Stow's. I'd prefer Church's Grafton's, C&J Pembroke's or something like Tricker's Daniel/Richard/Robert in the case of shoes.

I feel like 4444 and sizing down works well for those with narrow or standard width feet. I’ve tried going down half a size in Bourtons and it was a mighty painful experience. I have a couple of pairs in my normal size and they feel slightly long but narrow in the forefoot. Unlike you, I like the aesthetic, but the last just doesn’t work for me. 4497, 325 and 365 are all great for me however.

You can probably guess what happened, but in my defense, I asked about these before and made a ridiculously low offer. If they don't fit me, I might be willing to pass these on here.

Good evening, please advise me on the choice of leather for casual winter boots.

I am looking for leather that is soaked with wax or oils to better repelent water and keep my feet warm and dry.

I'm not a big fan of completely smooth and shiny calf leathers that look very formal. I really like Kudu leather. It is neither very smooth nor grainy, and looks very natural.

I'm just worried about whether it's suitable for snow and rain, so that it doesn't soak in very quickly.

What do you think? Should I pull the trigger, or can you advise me on another suitable alternative? I am also willing to go to MTO, so I am open to all possibilities.

I already looked at tricker's factory shop, and there are no shoes in my size that I like.

To be honest, I don't have any pair of Tricker's, only C&J boots, because I found Tricker's to be less comfortable for same money. But I refuted this myth when I finally tried on the correct size of the boots, and I concluded that they fit incredibly well.

I would definitely like a Stow style, or cap toe, with a Vibram or Comando outsole and a standard 4497 last. All I need is to figure out what kind of leather.

Peanut Reverse Suede doesn't look bad if it were more brown or dark brown. Is it similar to rough out suede from C&J?

Indeed it's similar to RO from C&J. All those waxy leathers come from C.F. Stead tannery. Honestly I'm not really sure if they are all the same, but I suspect there are slight variations:
- Waxy Commander (Tricker's and others)
- Waxy Reverse Suede (Tricker's)
- Roughtout Suede (C&J and others)

I suspect the variation lies in the length of the hairs and amount of Dubbin wax applied. Mine (the Peanut and Ridge Reverse Suede by Tricker's) are pretty dry and somewhat hairy, giving it a suede'ish look, however the leather is much thicker since it's not a typical suede (split from the grain side) but they leave the grain side intact, only reverse it. What you see is actually the flesh side, with the grain side turned inwards.

My assumption is that with a dose of Dubbin grease, it'll look like C&J's roughout, thus darken the color and further increasing weather resistance. I like the suede'ish look and lighter color though, so not planning to do that.

The 'Ridge' is exactly the same, only a medium/darker brown. It looks similar like Repello Suede, only rougher and thick (as explained above). Here's mine in Ridge. I suspect the hairs to come loose a bit more with brushing and the surface wax content reduced. You can flatten the hairs again with Dubbin.

Roughout is waxed whereas reverse suede probably isn’t. Very different in feel, appearance and robustness in my experience.

I found following boot, do you think that it is regular "Ridge Reverse Suede" just in this dark brown / black color?

Because when I see that ridge suede in detailed photo (thanks for that btw.) I am not sure if it is what I am looking for. I already have suede chelseas for spring / summer, and I wanted something with more leather look for winter.

Just had another look and the reverse clearly is waxed so similar. I was thinking it’d be like the reverse kudu Trickers I had.

In winter, there is a much higher probability that the bottom of my jeans will get wet, and the boots will stain even more.

Of course, I haven't tried raw jeans with smooth leather, but I think it won't catch the color as well as suede

Received the Denham x Tricker's sneakers today. Unfortunately, the shoes are a size 9 which came in an UK10 box.

Surprisingly, they do fit quite well. My TTS is UK10, so I'd likely be a UK9.5 in the Bourton's 4444 last. My main issue is the pinky toe on my larger foot, but the soft suede makes it less of an issue.

I can return these, but got them for a steal. Also quite like them. They Morflex sole makes them feel much more as a sneaker being so lightweight. Ideally I'd get them in a UK9.5, but on the web I would pay at least 3x the price. Choices, choices.
