Medallion eating welts on product pages. The acorn Stows are particularly bad.

With only 1% of the population, on average, affected by OCDC Tricker's may not consider it an issue. I'm pretty bad but the brogue medallions for some reason don't appear to bother me, it's not having both ends of the laces the same length after exiting the top eyelets of my boots that get me. lol

How do u guys feel about the Lightweight Stow boots with the thinner soles? Some good deals on them but not sure if I would like them..thx

Not sure they're my cup of tea. The Stows are iconic not just for the design but for the heavy tank like build. If you take that away then a good bit of the essence disappears. So I'd rather stick to the classic Stows.

I have the Tricker's Fawn polish for Acorn. It's made in France. Bet it's Fauve repackaged.
I have now ordered 'Crème Surfine Scotch (19 Fauve)' and will post the result these days.

Okay, here's the comparison.

These Bourtons are pretty new. One of them is treated with Collonil's Crème De Luxe Natural (cream not wax). The other one with the featured Saphir Crème Surfine Scotch 19 Fauve. (The sticker at the bottom says: Fauve - Fawn 75392-45 No. 19).
As the result is so close I don't need to reveal which shoe got which product, but will be happy to, if required.

(The stain because of which I got the Scotch Crème is still there, but I did a retouch so that you can not identify the shoe.)

Yes, it’s weird, I wouldn’t consider myself particularly OCD but for some reason the medallions bother me. I think part of it is I just feel that a producer like Trickers which is pretty good on quality issues, ought to be getting that sort of detail right.

For some reason, Tricker’s is particularly bad about getting the medallions right. Given how prominent the placement is makes it especially noticeable.
One thing I find so amusing is how easy it is to find medallion eating welt examples in product photos. I just did a quick survey of about 15 pairs of my Bourtons/Stows and only one pair is like that. It doesn’t particularly bother me but once you see it you can’t unsee it.

No trouble with medallions so far, but I do have a sign kudu pair of Stows where the shaft of one boot is taller than the other. Pant legs to the rescue but still....

I think the proportions just look off on the Stow without the midsole. But perhaps if they changed more things it would look okay. Flat 270 welt maybe? I'm not sure what would work exactly. But I'm sure it's possible to make it look good with a less chunky welt/sole.

I dislike them. I have one pair and won’t buy anymore of the “he has no midsole” shoes/boots again. Too thin under foot and too “unTrickers” aesthetically speaking. Also when did the English language reintroduce grammatical noun gender?

I have the Calvert boots with the thinner dainite. If I walk 4/5km a day with them, I can definitely feel the concrete and cobbles by the end of the day. I'll be resoling them onto full dainite or vibram when it is time.

I don't hate them. I have a pair of Stows in suede and they give a bit of a sleeker look for a change. I also have a pair of Bourtons in museum calf with the lightweight sole and same deal. So I think with the right upper material they can work. Also it helps they were cheap.

Sounds like they are an ok pickup at sale price, but I think I will stick with the traditional double soles..thx for all the replies.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
