My style is actually affected by my job. I'm a yacht broker, so i tend to wear clothes more influenced by americana and boating. I.E Boat shoes are not a fashion statement..they're standard issue and practical for not marking up the deck of a boat.

I have worked in various law firms over the years and lawyers tend to be a very boring bunch.

Recently, I have returned to private practice in a small boutique. I am the odd one out as I tend to wear a tie and sport coat most days of the week. Everyone else tends to wear open collar shirt and sweaters. All quality stuff but very casual. No one who would be considered to be "flaunting" it.

I dont see why politicians can't be well dressed. Its just unfortunate that most aren't.

Couldn't you hire the person and tell him that for for the position he's being hired he's expected to dress more conservatively? Seems a bad reason to forego hiring the most capable person.

They will be if Michelle Obama has anything to do with it. I've seen pics of Barack casually and it wasn't pretty. Typical American casual what it was: pleated khaki's with a narrow leg with horrible running shoes and a polo tucked in. He certainly needs a stylist or someone with good influence/intentions in his ear.

I work in sales/Visual merchandising in the Financial district for a female label and most of the clientele are very conservative, sometimes matronly and sometimes schlumpy. I wouldn't consider my style to be eccentric but I surely am a fish out of water in that environment.
