i am going to guess that they closed because they were really expensive and weren't making enough money. i'm not really informed but when i went there (december 19th maybe?) they still had a lot of unsold stuff. there also was construction going on around there which probably hurt their business. if you've never been it's not really an accessible location to begin with. i am only surprised about the closing because they seemed pretty versatile and they'd been in the game almost a decade.
its kinda hard to judge because it was the whole brand that shut down, not just the nyc store. i only saw other customers in the store once in the 4-5 times that i've been there, the japanese dude who worked there always was complaining that there was too much business though. heh
