I like the warmth of solid wood furniture as much as anyone else (if not more), but that Amish thing is a bit boring IMO. You can do wood & natural looking but also with cleaner lines and design.

I kinda like these which seem to match your criteria to a certain extent - when you limit your scope to storage-type beds and wood, number of choices narrows... In particular, it's hard for these not to look extra clunky.

Greg, thanks for the examples. I had tossed up that Hudson earlier, and then I figured the pricing to be 12k plus for the package. The bed doesn't have to be a storage bed (I agree, they tend to look clunky, and that doesn't thrill me too much) but needs to no more than a few inches clearance from the floor, due to the cat issue. Mafoo, not a log cabin. Just because the foyer to our bedroom is bigger than the usual apartment, in your neck of the woods, doesn't mean we're looking for a castle or chateau style either. Maybe you could Foof the bed?

Edit: no wait, the Hudson is not 12k. Too many beds!

Actually, yes. In fact, we just received the new sofa a few days ago. It's very nice, although we miss the buttons that come on the leather version.
