I think modular helmets are cool and I love the idea of how easy they are to put on/take off, but I can't get away from the statistic they posted in my motorcycle training class that something like 60 percent of head impacts in a crash are to the face and (especially) jaw. So for me, at least, it's always going to be full-face helmets.

I've been practicing my landings for years, almost have them perfected

Four months now, and dealer has still not gotten my title paperwork filed, or at least that's how it appears. He swears up and down that he dropped it at local tax office, but that was 3 weeks ago and their online status tool shows his dealership hasn't dropped anything for processing since January (of course, that means mine should have been in that drop, since I bought my bike long before that)! I have no idea if this is sheer incompetence, or something else, but WTF?

That sucks. I actually just got the title from the DMV for my KTM 890 ADV R. I took care of the registration over at AAA a couple of weeks ago. So what's happening to you definitely sounds totally sketchy to me.

I just got a notification that the Distinguished Gentlemen's Ride is on May 22 this year. Has anyone ever done that? It would be a first for me (since COVID hit like two weeks after I got my moto license).

Yeah, only thing I can imagine is they are having financial trouble, and rather than remit the manufacturer's portion of the sales price to them in return for title, which they would then pass on to me, they spent it, and I am caught up in some kind of ponzi-like death rattle at this dealership which has actually been in business since the 1980s!! I hope not, but starting to look pretty bad.

Maybe call and threaten to call the police if they don't produce some proof that title has been submitted? If they took your money and spent it, that seems like theft to me.

Our local TV news stations have investigative reporters who take up the causes of people who have have been done dirty by businesses. Most are things like honoring warranties, or providing things that people have paid for, or returning money owed. The reporter shows up at the business with a camera crew wanting to talk to someone in charge who can provide an answer (on camera) as to why they ripped off their customer. After a spot like that on the local news the business resolves the issue in the customers favor just to avoid bad publicity. It might be time to call Chip Whitley at Channel 5 Action News to get on the case.

It's pretty cool for people watching and seeing other bikes. Last year in LA, we were parading 20-30 mph through the city with a police escort but it was on a hot day so all the stopping and going was annoying in the suit. It was cool to support the cause and see the community but my favorite riding memories have been on longer trips. I'm skipping it this year

Also, wanted to share that I brought home this (new to me) XR1200. A significant riding experience improvement over my SCR, I'm planning to keep both.

So yesterday, five months to the day after buying it, I received my title in the mail. Still no permanent tags (on my third set of paper tags) and dealer's back office told me yesterday "they can't find them" (lol), but at least now I can just register the goddamned thing myself. Read reviews carefully my friends. In this case, there were at least 2 in the 8 to 9 months prior to me buying my bike referencing "still haven't gotten my title/still making payments on the bike I traded in" that should have tipped me off, but I ignored. Will never approach the vehicle purchase process the same again..

I'm glad they at least managed to produce the title. This might be worth a call to the agency that handles licensing for dealers in your state.

May isn't bad. My buddy and I almost did it one year but it was in August. The thought of slow speed tooling about on a breezeless 100 degree 95% humidity day donned in suit-like apparel was not my idea of a good time. I'm in DC and so I've witnessed the toll Rolling Thunder takes on old bikes. It ain't pretty.

@TRINI has done the Toronto ride but AFAIK he hasn't posted here in years

I'd actually filed a complaint with DMV a couple of months ago, when they were over triple the time allotted to them by TX law to deliver title. They didn't really do much I'm afraid, other than advise me to consult a lawyer lol

New boots! Tried them out yesterday and they were a great success.
