I'm so glad you enjoyed it, it means a lot to me! I really tried to capture mod music as best as I could with my limited knowledge. Next thursday it'll be skinhead reggae and bits of jamaican music after '69

Great track selection this week, I was just wondering if it was possible for Kate's voice to be a little louder. I don't know if it's because I'm not used to american accents, but I sometimes have a hard time understanding what she says, especially at such a relatively low volume compared to the tracks.
She's from Kent!

But yeah, she is very quietly-spoken. I'll let her know.

She doesn't "swallow the mic" like I used to do when I was at the controls.

Can someone tell me if the modshoes bowling styles are any good? I've been eyeing a pair of blue bowling shoes for a while, still not sure about buying them but they've been on the back of my mind.

New podcast dropped. Couple of great Reggae tracks in the mix this week, and a focus on World Music. Here's the shpeel:

Kate Mowbray takes Soul on a world tour today, showing how “World Music” has been influenced by, or has taken into its many traditions, our beloved Soul Music. You’ll hear artistes such as Fela Kuti, Hugh Masekela, Jorge Ben Jor, and many others. There’s a wonderful Jamaican version of Bobby “Blue” Bland’s Ain’t No Love In The Heart Of The City sung by Reggae star Al Brown in there too!

And here's the link:

I’ve never bought bowling shoes from them, but if they are anything like their cord shoes and plimsols, they’re probably of good quality.

Haha great minds think alike Yorky! I’m not into cords and I wouldn’t normally post a pic of me in these threads as there’s only a very tenuous Mod influence but since we’re on the same wavelength today … I’m in frigid New York so snapped a quick hotel selfie …

Sunglasses - JMM Ashcroft in prime with custom lenses
Coat - US Navy via ebay
Scarf - Uniqlo cashmere
Gloves - Paula Run custom made peccary
Strides - Suitsupply heavy flannel
Boots - Meermin MTO jump boots in burgundy pebble grain with shearling lining and dainite soles

I did a series of blog posts a couple of years ago with the theme of turning to military - inspired gear to wear in the cold and maintain a modicum of style as opposed to succumbing to man made tech gear.

I felt really old this week, we went to see The Charlatans in Leeds on Sunday evening, and remembered the first time that I actually saw the Bass player Martin Blunt was in the early 80’s when he was with the Mod band Makin Time, 40 years ago when I was 18ish. Me and the mates went into the dressing room after the gig and he generously shared his bottle of whisky with us. But I was more interested in their keyboard player the gorgeous Fay Hallam.

Also felt old this week, as Tai Luc, singer of La Souris Deglinguee, an emblematic parisian band that started in the late 70s died a few days ago. RIP mate.

Time passes, and we are all mortal.

This week's podcast features many musicians whose like we will never see again. Here's the shpeel:

A great show today starting off with a stunning jazz track – Better Git It In Your Soul by the great jazz bassist Charles Mingus and his band, recorded in 1959 – and moving on to tracks by George McCrae, Smokey Robinson, Billy Stewart, Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, and many more. Stay tuned right to the end!

Next week it will be the Soul Shack Christmas Show, and I'll be sitting in with Kate for that one. :)

Possibly it'll be a two-hour show! Wait and see.
