I remember an argument on here before about it, that a Gibson was a Derby with all the shite on the front and that was what made it a Gibson.

So, to make things clear...

Back in the day (in this case, 67/68 in Blackpool) "Gibsons" were what we called lace-up shoes with a front apron. Any lace-up shoes with an apron.
I remember that name a few years later from The Squire Shop and The Ivy Shop. A later addition to their range in addition to longwing brogues and plain caps.

And yes it had an apron (or what used to be called a mudguard) as the defining feature.

Yeah you really have to take it for what it is: a symphonic rendition of Northern Soul tunes with a somewhat polished approach. I was ecstatic to be there because I had a £8 ticket which allowed me to be in the arena where I could meet some guys from the original scene and DANCE; apart from that, upon listening again to it at home I have to say that it certainly does lack the grit of a 45RPM blasted through an analog sound system. Anyway, I'm too young to have been at the twisted wheel, the casino, or the Blackpool Mecca so I don't really know about the real feeling.
This one looks pretty good to me, I'm probably already old :-D
