Messenger bag large enough for jacket or large laptop?

My preference is still messenger bag with cross body strap over a backpack or tote bag (unless really going to the grocery or carrying several books). I was looking, though, for a messenger bag large enough and with a strap strong enough to carry a fleece or light sweater, or a larger laptop like a 15 inch Macbook Pro. Also looking for something that would go with a dressier chore jacket or similar cotton jacket that could readily be worn with a cross body strap unlike a sport coat. This means canvas or cotton over nylon or technical fabric. Leather satchel bags are too small, and I don't want to go to leather bags that are closer to briefcases.

Not actually a lot of choice given the above criteria which I hope is sensible. Any ideas?
