Posting this here for posterity. Got my second shirt from Luxire yesterday, and as with the first one, I was disappointed with the collar.

What I asked for (not the fabric):

1000

What I received:

1000

To be fair, I did not specify a collar spread, only a collar point of 3 inches and a copy of the first image above.

I contacted Luxire with the following message:

Hello--
I've just received my second order from Luxire today, and as with the first order, I really like the fabric, fit and workmanship on it, but I am not so impressed with the shape of the collars.

Particularly on this second order, the button-down collar has very oddly angled collar points as compared to a traditional button-down collar dress shirt and that makes it fit strangely and tug outwards horizontally along the collar bone from where the collar points are buttoned -- particularly when paired with a tie.

When placing the order, I envisioned a collar shaped more like in the photo I used from another shirt made by Luxire (see attached 'envisioned' photo) to denote the style collar I was after. The shirt I received has a collar very different from that (see attached 'received' photo). Note that the photo of the blue oxford shirt was originally sent with the order to illustrate the desired general shape of the collar but also the undesired 'gap' on the base of the collars.

Is this something that is fixable if I can send this shirt back to you? If I decide to place future orders, how do I ensure the collar is done more predictably?

Thanks in advance for your concern.

and received the following reply:

Hi Andrew,
Our button-down collars have 0.5" tie gap by default. As you requested no tie gap, we made it that way.

For the spread, you can specify what you would like. For the blue shirt, the spread is 4.0"

Thus, if in your prder you specify that you would like the tie gap to be zero and the spread to be 4", the collar would shape up accordingly.

Thanks and Regards,
Theresa James

The reply does not address half of my questions/concerns, nor does it seem to attempt to reinforce this prior statement.

IMO, the order process at Luxire is too open ended and provides no good customer guidance on what to expect if a certain detail is omitted due to an unwise assumption. Default measurements and shapes, such as the default tie gap, for example, are not described anywhere in the order form -- or elsewhere on the luxire.com site for that matter.

I placed an order for a shirt on Friday May 3 at 3PM, what are the chances I will receive this shipment on or before 5/15?

Ahhh, 1% would be about right...yeah.

My experience: I let Luxire know that I needed a formal shirt for a specific event and asked beforehand about the timing of ordering and delivery. I received the shirt one day earlier than promised.

To be fair, I received a shirt within 10 days from Luxire back in December.

I don't know how their shipping times have been lately but if they got on my order anytime between Friday and Monday, maybe there is hope.

I ordered a couple of shirts on April 18th and they were "shipped" on April 29th and have still not arrived (May 6th).

ETA:  According to FedEx tracking, the parcel is still in Bangalore as of May 5th.

I sent in a shirt of mine at mid march to have some changes made to the sleeves of my existing Luxire pattern.
The shirt was received at the end of march.
I expected the shirts to be finished and shipped back to me at the end of april in worst case from my experience with two previous orders.
As time passed and I heard nothing from them, I emailed Theresa repeatedly and told her that I had a special event lined uo and needed the shirts till the 13th at the latest.
She knows both my previous orders took some additional days to arrive at my house because of customs.
The shirts have not yet shipped and I have not heard anything from Theresa for over a week.....

So I just wanted to update everybody. I received an email from Luxire in response to my inquiry on if I can receive my shirt within about 11-12 days of ordering. They said they would try their best to get the shirt out to me and it is already en route with delivery ETA being 5/14, a day earlier than I need it, which is perfect.

I know some of you may not have had a consistent level of service but this is the second time I have received good service from Luxire. The forum and email response rate has slowed down but I'm ok with that because I know their client base is growing and its tough to run a new growing company and keep it lean at the same time.

Thanks Luxire.

Cliff notes:

- I ordered a custom shirt at the end of Friday 5/3/13
- I needed a shirt made before 5/15
- They made and shipped by 5/9
- According to FedEx, I will be receiving 5/14 @ 10:30 AM

I received my 'mercer' collar bd recently. I'm out of town at the moment so can't put up any pictures of the roll etc. However, here's a picture of the shirt in the luxire packaging it arrived in:

That's great, thanks for the photo. Do post more pictures when you are able to.

I assume the collar is also constructed just like Mercer's (completely unlined) and not just made to look similar?

I don't really understand what's happening here; you had the 4 inch measurement between the collar points in the photo you submitted, but did not ask to have it made that way?

And if you didn't ask to have it made that way, why would you assume they would?

To me it looks like you've been messing around with fundamental aspects of a shirt, and you got what you asked for, even though it wasn't what you wanted. They did what you asked them to do, and I think you run the risk of that happening when you take the risk of customizing stuff extensively.

Have been thinking about ordering some shirts and some pants, but the comments about delays, fabrics, and just overall "ehness" is turning me away...

I wouldn't let you. I still find Luxire's service better than almost all their competitors. Some of the angst, I feel, is just caused by the really extensive ability to customize and the high expectations people have based on past experience. It's not that they aren't meeting up to these now, but shirts used to come in a week. After my third order came in a week I begin to get used to it and expect it and order shirts for an occasion a week and a half away. When this changes I become unhappy, if even the next alternative maker takes 1.5 months.

I did not know that the collar spread was 4 inches on the blue shirt until I received the reply from Luxire posted above, so that measurement was added to the photo only just before posting it above which may have contributed to the confusion -- my apologies for that. The photo of the blue shirt was submitted to Luxire following my order with everything BUT the collar spread measurement and my critical mistake was to not have included that measurement but instead expecting that they could rely on the aspect ratio from the photo for a proper shape.

Clearly the shape of the collars in both pictures are not anything alike, independent of a tie gap or no. I respectfully disagree that specifying a collar point measurement disrupts the "fundamental aspects" of a shirt -- IMHO, it simply defines the scale of the collar. And honestly, being the specialists, I feel their assumptions are much graver than mine for not asking for clarification.

Irrespective of any of that, the focal point of my previous post is in the last statement and intended as a heads-up to new customers since as I wrote, Luxire does not define exact dimensions in their options of collar in the order page, so you may not get what you think you will. The intention was simply to expose as feedback for others that Luxire's response to my request for help was simply to point out my mistake in the order and NOT to offer to fix the problem as their policy states. It certainly was NOT meant to change the minds of anyone here who has already become a loyal customer.

Completely agree. As I can only imagine, to cover the tie gap, the points could be moved in a few different ways, Luxire chose one, expectation was another. Such problems can happen and then there is the policy that is very friendly to such mishaps.

Offer? I would read their policy as an offer BIG enough.

If you write to them that would like the collar changed and they refuse then yes, you have a reason to complain.

Simply tell them that you you would like the collar replaced in accordance to their policy. Am not sure what kind of offer you are looking for.

Hm, that doesn't sound great. Well, I hope I (kind of :)) like it and that I get the measurements right. (First shirt.)

What don't you like about it? And do you have pics?

Thinking of ordering the raw denim (introductory price 99), but I'm a bit curious as to which variety I should get. What is the most versatile shade/colour/option? 14 oz dark/13 oz dark indigo/13 oz raw indigo?

And as I haven't ordered a pair of pants from Luxire before, front pockets "on seam" is the common way to go with jeans, right?

It's extremely lightweight and wears very casually. Wrinkles like linen. It's not bad but if doesn't have a lot of texture/hand like most chambray does.
