Exactly the same like you. Tight on the top and and sides for my right foot. The side is slightly tight for my left but not much of an issue compared to my right foot. Probably 2-3 hours in total as of now. Should I preservere?
No, get rid of them, and avoid loafers until you get a more experience with shoes. Buy some derby shoes that feel comfortable out of the box.
Regarding shoe stretching: this only gets good results when a shoe feels quite comfortable out of the box, you can't really make a shoe fit. Shoe stretching is at its best when a shoe feels good but you might need an extra 1mm near the little toe. You don't want the shoe looking deformed and crazy. Part of the shoe journey is the expense of not having shoes that fit; the shoes feel good in the shop, but at the end of the day they are hurting your feet. These things can easily happen, and it happened to the best of us.
Monty, you have your first wasted money. Consider it sunken money and try again, but this time be wiser. Make sure the shoe feels good with no tight spots, but not loose either.
