My pops has been in the hospital for two weeks (he’s on the mend from a meningioma) so I’ve been burning through the coffee making it for the neurosurgeons, neurologists, nurses, and now rehab folks. Had to buy some locally because of how quickly I’ve been using it. Picked up my first-ever bag from Onyx, https://onyxcoffeelab.com/products/colombia-aponte-village-honey

It’s 5 days off roast, so probably needs some more rest, but overall I’m impressed. Beans are super consistent looking in the bag. Using my usual Kalita Wave, getting lots of fruit.
I hope you father gets better soon! Onyx is very good.

Top to bottom

Culture coffee. Kind of wosh i had bought some of their beans. Very solid espresso.

La Cabra. I was telling my gf i interviewed the founder when he was just a very good roaster in medium size city Denmark. Fantasic espresso. Best croissant in the city. Everything is automated even the tamping which i guess is less romantic but the consistent quality is worth it.

Felix. It was fine. Design more important than the output i think. And a small coffee was $5.

Solid state was excellent. I forget which was the drip. Will also post pics of all the beans and cincinnati stop later.

Avout five pounds of coffee. Should be set for the next week or so.

Made a cup of the Dominican blend from Zabars. This is far better than it should be for the price. It almost has an Ethiopian sweetness to it.

The Zabars house blend is just a good cup of coffee.

Went with a mexican estate from Fairway because it seemed to be the most reasonably roasted. (As you'd guess they were dark).

Should have had a cup of the Russ and Daughters coffee before buying a pound but im sure its fine.

The instant---sorry---steeeped coffee is for the office.

The Mexican from Fairway is good. Very soft, fudgey and viscous. For the price this is phenomenal. Made it in the switch and those cups are supposed to take about 3 minutes. This took 2:30 so I can adjust grind size but idk i like it a lot.

First two are from urbana. Second best cup on the trip I think. Didn't know anything about them just walked past and stopped.

Collective Espresso in the middle. It was good. Forget what besns they used.

Deeper Roots was a gorgeous space with a neat pourover setup. Im usually disappointed with pourovers at cafes but this was set up well.

Also stopped at Mom and Ems. The espresso was good but my palate was shot at that point.

They both sound fun, and I’m a real sucker for watermelon.
That sounds so nasty, it'll probably be good.
Like the time I was at Ballast Point in Little Italy, and they had me try their employee concoction of a 50/50 mix with curry beer, and Girl Scout cookie thin mint beer...

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
