Just can't get myself to wear (soil/tarnish) the new Darltons..

I have found this to be true of Church's Graftons too which also have the thick double sole.

If they were great shoes I wold have bothered with taps. I find them just alright shoes so of they wear put in a couple of years I won't cry about it.

Just wanted to add that these shoes do not look clunky at all while worn and feel quite comfortable.

Why not put the ball tips on them? It surely will extend the life of these shoes. I think the OP should get this done by a good shoemaker before he wears them as he will certainly be very disappointed to see the tips of his shoes disappear quickly in a few wears as many double thick sole wearers seem to find. I'm going to get my Church's Graftons tipped as well as my Church's Burwoods that I haven't worn yet even though they may not be as prone to the frontal wear like the Graftons being thinner and I think hader but I don't want to risk it. Please can you let us know what are good shoes in your opinion, Patek? I ask as you have much shoe experience.

You really need to either get a grip of yourself, noting that these are just shoes whose lot in life is to be worn and thus soiled or tarnish or have a display case made for them and insist on showing them to everyone who visits your house.

Waffling here about this is not worth the time and is rather silly really.

Interestingly enough, I was looking at my sole after Day 1 and i did notice the toe part was gettnig scratched up more. I'm guessing it's because of how stiff it starts out to be before being broken in.


No resoling on Darltons?

Presumably C&J would resole them for you, I cannot see them saying no just because it was sold as a RL shoe.

Apparently they do say no, and for exactly that reason. At least that's what I have heard anecdotally. Have not worn my Darltons down to quite that point yet, but I'll find out when I get there. I have heard, however, that many companies (C&J included) will not resole a retail-rebranded shoe of their own making.

I wouldn't say I have "much shoe experience". Last year I purchased A pair of C&J handgrade and even after exchanging them for a smaller size, they do not fit me right. The heels are a little too loose, as is the vamp. I also find the sides of the ankle to come up too high as to bite into my ankle when my feet are at an angle. have had similar problems with Alden that coupled with their ugliness made me return every pair I ever bought. Everyone's feet are different, but I have found the brand and the last that fits me best and feels bespoke on my feet. I really do need to find another OTR shoe that fits me that well or my closest will get pretty boring with only EG 888.
