Julius Shulman RIP

Age 98. He was pretty active till the end. I was supposed to see him speak recently but he cancelled the gig. Also, a friend of mine met him last year by walking up to his house in Silver Lake and introducing herself. Apparently he invited her in and talked her ear off.

I love his most famous picture, case study, house #22- the way that house seems to float above the city, and the composition of that picture. He angles the camera so that there are strong lines that go left to right, drawing your attention to the city below, where you see that the city lights echoes the lines of the home.

One surprising thing I noticed that for an architectural photographer, he was fond of using people in his pictures.
