11 E - Alden Van Last (they fit, but I have them stretched and then they work fine)

Have you had success in stretching the LHS? I bought a pair of LHS' a half size up from a pair I outgrew, but they still have quite a low instep when compared to Weston, and I'm considering just replacing them with Westons. However, that seems a bit uneconomical. Incidentally, I bought these as an economical solution for a pair of Westons I outgrew. Circle of life.

I've never had success in stretching, but that's probably because I've always needed more stretch than could be provided, having sized down too much. In this case, the size is correct, just constrictive.

FYI, Mr. Porter is now listing the actual UK size for JM Westons. The Weston size is 1 size down from the UK.
Ok, well this isn't true. Received a pair of Westons listed on Mr. Porter as '12E' that are, indeed, 12E Weston size. So vendor sizing remains all over the map.

Also, further contributing to the mysticism surrounding Weston sizing, the 12E 180 did not fit all that bad, and I'm an 11D, or so I thought. At this point I'm thinking I could go up to an 11E or 11.5D or even an 11.5E to be more comfortable.

So, after four pairs of 180s, I still know nothing of my sizing.

It's about time you stop buying online,
the money you wasted could have bought you a ticket to Paris and tried them on in person.

This is discouraging, to say the least. I was hoping to try a size or two.

I suppose what's even more surprising is that Weston doesn't ship to the US, nor are there many stockists.

Is it only Mr. P and Nordstrom?

The LHS that I had stretched was a tiny bit tight and I had a cobbler that stretched them in the proper spot and they’re fine now, but I could have worn them probably for a while and just had them be a little tight and maybe painful which I avoided

Thank you so much for the detailed review!

One follow-up: Is your 10F Weston in UK sizing or Weston sizing? I'm in the US, so to avoid duties I'd have to go through Mr. Porter or Nordstrom's. They both show UK sizing.

Seems like you essentially went Brannock -1 (since Barrie is 1/2 a US size larger than standard). My forefoot is wide-ish, but I still wear US D width and my Harvard 2 fit excellent.
My 10 F is Weston sizing . I ordered directly from the boutique in Limoges - i’m in the US too and you can’t order from the JMW website. So you send an email to the boutique and they send you a a link where you can pay for the shoes. The good news is that you don’t have to pay any import duty - when I buy shoes from Crockett Jones I always end up having to give a little extra money to DHL, but for whatever reason all my shoes from the boutique in France did not require an extra charge. The manager‘s name is Melanie you can reach them at [email protected]

A JMW F width is like a US EEE

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
