A $300 daily briefcase, I can see.
$1500 duffle bag? Whoa.
This truly is high roller territory, as this stuff is barely used.

I had to stay in a hotel last night.
I dug out a black nylon/PVC Calvin Klein bag I got free somewhere.
It served it's purpose, after I blacked out the logo with a magic marker.
(Yea, I'm classy like that)

I'd like to get a "respectable" overnight bag,
but can't justify more than $200 used.

For me, a bag for work or travel should be a rare purchase. Thus, I don't mind spendiing a small chunk of change on a nice bag that will last lots of years and look better with each passing year. With that said, the Varvatos bag is not to my taste and seems to be way overpriced. SAB, not bad.

I own a similar Varvatos bag, essentially the same materials and construction but a slightly different shape. It's nice, but honestly more comparable in quality and style to bags in the $600 range. I absolutely wouldn't pay $1400 for it.

The Cucinelli has a much better and more rugged vegetable tanned leather, and its quality of construction is much better than that of the Varvatos.

i've been by the bowery many times to take a gander, and can conclude nothing but that most of varvatos's wares are poorly constructed out of cheap material. good for him, though, for taking advantage of the young and naive.

While this isn't quite up to SF standards, this bag is a great value. Not as nice as a filson, but a well made, reasonably attractive bag for $200(leather), or $100(canvas). I have the both and they hold up well. Solid build & hardware, reasonable price.
