I wash all my knits in the washing machine on the wool program.

Me too. That said we have a Miele which is pretty decent. When I was working in the states the apartment had a top loading jobby which ruined untold clobber. I would never risk it with woollens.

I would never wash any nice knitwear in a washing machine, just hand wash it. I don't like dry cleaning bc it's not washing it's spraying with chemicals.

Yeah I think the best and safest bet is just to hand-wash. I try to stay away from dry cleaners as they would never put the same amount of care as I would with my clothing.

get some woolite and gently agitate/massage in water, then clear rinse twice without wringing or anything like that and then lay flat to dry on a towel

Be a man. Learn how to take care of your clothes, including washing (wool) items by hand. If that's too much of a hassle, buy cotton or plastic clothes.

Not hassle to hand-wash, I have been doing that. I was just wondering if machine wash is ok if it does the same result. But seems like hand-wash is safest bet.

The point with hand-washing woollen knitwear, apart from keeping the loops and structure intact, is to preserve at least a bit of the lanolin, or wool grease, that's usually left in the yarn and jumper. This secret ingredient is what makes knitwear more water-proof, durable and warm. Wash your piece in too hot, rough or strong liquid, and all is lost. This is why we also have special wool washing gunks and even products with added lanolin.

The Bureau won't be stocking Inis Meain this season which is disappointing.

I paid a visit to the island back in August and visited the shop. Interestingly they have different sizes for the European, US and Japanese market for the products on sale. There was a pretty big variation in listed sizes on identical models so that's something to be aware of if any of you get a chance to visit.

To give you an idea of prices, I picked up this Linen Pub Jacket for €100 and a cross over linen sweater for €90. Wool/cashmere products such as the Mairtin Beag were €120.

Hmm.... you mean that a XL for the N. American market is sized differently than a XL for the Euro market? If so, that is interesting.

Holy crap! I wish I read your post before I ordered from them, now I have a Euro size medium sweater that fits too tight. Anyone know the best way to get in touch with them besides email? I've sent a few regarding a return but so far communication with them has been terrible as they haven't responded.
