Some of you are afraid to share the mess. I’ll volunteer and show you mine. Don’t judge me.
You're one of the most interestingly dressed men I've ever seen, so I'm surprised you hang your jackets on those skimpy hangers. I'm judging you.

A fatter hanger would take up twice the space, but something similar can be achieved by using your skimpy hangers for the lighter, warm weather jackets, then putting a second, heavier jacket on top, both on the same hanger, the first one providing shoulder bulk for the second. You choose which jackets need shoulder support the most as the top one. Not quite so easy to see the under jacket at a quick glance, but then you shouldn't be quick glancing, you should be savoring, long and lovingly, each and every piece. When no one's looking, chuckle.

Thanks for the kind words? Two jackets per hanger! I'd love to see a picture of this if you have one. I have a lot of jackets/suits as you can see. I definitely need slimmer hangers to get them all in there. Before this, I used plastic hangers, but those were really no help to my jacket shoulders.

The knits are visible and fairly distinct. I know which one I want to grab and can find it easily.

The shirts are another story. I have 7 or 8 blue OCBD. It is not easy finding the right one sometimes. It ends up being a big game of jenga. Take one out, investigate, then back on top. Not ideal, but I have over 100 shirts and no space to hang them all. They were all organized by color and fabric weight at one point, then life… I also have my seasonal shirts mixed in. I should really put them aside.
Just thinking through the logistics of navigating a wardrobe that size. I salute your dedication to the hobby.

How many jackets? I have to ask. 😂😂😂😂

You have enough clothes to supply an entire vintage habadashery. 😂😂😂

So, out of curiousity, how much does it cost to get a closet like this installed? I know there are contractors that specialize in this, but I'm frankly not that organized of a person, so I have never asked. But what are we talking about? 2000?

For a basic reach in closet that sounds about right. There’s obviously cheaper and more expensive ways to go about it but that’s probably the ballpark.

You can't picture that without a photograph? You put a jacket on a hanger and then you put another one over it. That's it, then you dust off your hands and pop open a Molson.

I will write more about certain eccentric closet habits I've come up with that work for me and might for others, you for instance, but I'm old and it's late and I'm going to bed. So another time.

Seems like it might be an interesting DIY project then, too.

Thanks. Appreciate the estimate. You guys have some nice closets. Puts my humble one to shame, that's for sure.

Haha, I hang a lot of my jackets/suits on steel wire hangers to be able to fit them in the wardrobe. I should probably coddle my expensive stuff a little more, but I've done this for years and noticed no significant difference in how the jackets/blazers/sport coats fare.

My closet really isn't that bad. I have 2(single man so I don't share.)

Suits/sport coats and slc
out of curiosity, why do you guys store your shoes in the closet? To me, it’s not practical (I don’t wear shoes inside my apartment). I use my closet by the front for outerwear & out of season clothing.

For me, it's space.

I have boxes upon boxes of shoes/sneakers/etc. in my closet. I also have boxes in my bedroom. I also keep a few boots/sneakers on my landing(unboxed).

I also don't wear shoes in my apartment. I take them off on my landing and bring them inside.

It is definitely daunting at times. I have a long list of items that need to be fixed, adjust, altered etc. I've had jackets sit in my closet for years before making it to the alterations tailor.

How many jackets? I have to ask. 😂😂😂😂

I'll have to count. suits and sport coats, last time I counted was in the 60s.

You can't picture that without a photograph? You put a jacket on a hanger and then you put another one over it. That's it, then you dust off your hands and pop open a Molson.

I can picture it. I'm seeing something rather bulky and cumbersome.

This. I don't have bespoke stuff. I haven't my thin hangers do fine for my needs.

I also don't wear shoes in my apartment. I take them off on my landing and bring them inside.

Same here.

Wow! This is beautiful.
