I'm only getting paid $193k per year to be on it, so yeah.
as a recent grad makin 60k a year, i must say, if i was making remotely close to that amount of money, i would hope that my time would be far too valuable to ever sit on a forum online.

shouldn't you be out buying things or driving nice cars? wtf

I'm doing all of those things, while posting on the forum, n00b. When you are livin' it up you get jaded and realize that nothing really makes you happier than chattin it up on the fora.

Yeah, young 'uns like you get recruited to do all the actual board work. The fund-raising thing can be a hassle, but it's important for obvious reasons. Often, depending on where you work, a big chunk of your value lies in where you work (meaning the other place where you work). If your company has any sort of charitable giving program, you're obviously their point man on that. Or, if your company hires a lot of outside professionals (and especially if you have some role in selecting/managing them) there may be some value in getting your signature on solicitation letters and/or having you make some follow-up calls.

But anyway, congrats.

Before more people who don't know PB start responding; which of these three posts may have hold a grain of truth?

Ok, so a board reached out to me to be on it. I was all like, hey, it is about time, they must be super smart to want me on their board and I jumped at the opportunity. Well, holy ******* **** this is a lot of work. I thought it was going to be about sitting in a mahogany room, at a mahogany table, in a suit drinking coffee and "gobble, gobble, gobble, very good sir!" and all of that, but no, it's like a full time job plus I need to fundraise, which I have no experience doing so I have no idea where to start with that. **** me. I think I have to start a thread, "How to Leave a Board".

My board work isn't too bad, even with the strategic planning process we're going through right now. My committee work is where most of my work goes.

I'm actually looking to find a second board seat on a more prominent organization now, ideally with opportunities for huge leadership potential (managing huge programs or something).

I recently was appointed to another board, and attended the first meeting yesterday. A very interesting organization with the most fascinating work of the four boards that I serve on; however, it's the most screwed up organization that I've experienced. It looks like this board will take up more of my time and cause more headache than I was expecting.

Anyone familiar with ExecReps?

Seems like everyone in here is quite capable on their own but I recently helped my CEO join this program, which some may consider in lieu of cold calling on their own. Basically an agent that helps with placement.
