Naive Jr. may believe that our destinies are in the hands of angels (or at least mine, from a sartorial perspective), but I fear he may believe, after today's posting, that I have given myself over the sartorial Satan.

I am sure that there are those of you out there, who upon seeing my posting today, will be saying, "What the hell was he thinking?", not entirely without reason. However, as it happens, I will be attending a members' preview at the Whitney this evening (and any party at the Whitney has an element of Halloween to it - "come as your favorite artistic or social pretension"), and it is in honor of their retrospective of the work of Jeff Koons, who makes monumental pieces of kitsch, so being dressed somewhat like a human cartoon makes some form of visual sense. Well, at least to me.

For better or worse, then . . .

I read about the Koons retrospective, sounds like a most ambitious undertaking. I'll be interested to hear your impressions. Judging from your description, you may be among the more conservatively dressed at this event. Regardless, looks good.

I don't understand how people don't own dslr's. I've been in this country too long (everyone here owns one. Rudals can vouch).

I would love to own one. Maybe one day I'll be ready to spend the cash on it.

Perhaps a less extreme cutaway collar would also help the tie not look as narrow?

Just start tying the knot a bit higher up and do two overlapping passes of the front blades. It's pretty simple and gives a nice result

Thanks, Stitchy, but that will make my life tougher when the weather cools off this fall :).

As for East Asians and digital cameras, it is my experience that they are inseparable, though my partner has settled for a Canon G1X (not a full DSLR), and the camera in a Nexus 5 (which is actually pretty good).

With how fast the phone cameras have developed, I don't see the point in investing in a DSLR. My phone camera has 13 MP and don't really see the need for a DSLR. My wife has her pretty new DSLR stashed away somewhere and have never seen it since getting married. But it saddens me to see bathroom selfies when they have nice fits. It just takes a bit of effort but a "normal" picture isn't that hard to take.

You don't need a DSL-R...you can buy a mirrorless which is half the size and the same quality...and in many models...a better price too.
