The weather in NYC has warmed up a little, with calmer winds, such that it is not as bad going outside as it has been the last couple of days. This shall be my last posting for the next two weeks or so, as my husband and I are flying out tomorrow afternoon, first to Spain (Seville and Madrid), then to the UK, for the celebration of Chinese New Year (dinner with the in-laws, for which my father-in-law cooks a massive meal).

I have started packing, and didn't have the mental energy to concoct a grand ensemble for this evening (dinner out at our "regular" Italian place), so I've opted for something fairly simple.

Sports jacket - Paul Stuart
Shirt, trousers, and overcoat - Brooks Brothers
Bow tie - Hilditch & Key
Pocket square - Harvie & Hudson
Boots - J Fitzpatrick
Scarf - Johnstons of Elgin
Cap - Paul Stuart

On the Santa Monica Pier earlier today. To the right of me are the burned over hills of Pacific Palisades and Malibu.

Houses have already started sliding down the burned over hills.

Capas cap, Brooks Brothers tweed jacket, Shetland sweater, and BB#1 stripe bow tie, L L Bean OCBD shirt, Squarextraordinaire pocket square, Lands' End twill trousers, and Allen-Edmonds suede shoes.

Looking towards downtown Santa Monica from the pier. I will avoid mentioning which building Lawrence Welk built since there were some negative comments the last time I mentioned this.

A chicken and mushroom pie, mushy peas, mash and me at Ye Olde King's Head in Santa Monica.

It was a very cold day (by local standards) so there was a fire going in the fireplace.

There was a recent post in the Bond Suits blog about some of James Bond's favorite brands.

One of those brands was Tiptree Strawberry Little Scarlet Conserve, which they have in the shop at Ye Olde King's Head.

first outing with this Pal Zileri suit I received as a gift recently! I know it’s probably hard to say from photos alone (doesn’t help the wind was fiercely blowing in the last two) but are there any glaring fit issues I should try to address? My alterations tailor does nice work but isn’t much for suggesting classic suit proportions.

Not sure if that is a style preference, but are your sleeves long enough?

Always love the charm & perspective in your post @upr_crust
Also have to blame/thank you for exposing me to Paul Stuart & sending me on a madman’s hunt for a Stuart’s Choice suit!
I'm infectious that way - rather like a touch of bubonic plague . . . ;)

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
