Once again at one of my favorite photo locations in Westwood Village.

All Brooks Brothers except for Orvis trousers, Rugby Ralph Lauren socks, and Allen-Edmonds shoes.

The bronze plaque on the building:

For those who want to see the shoes and socks, at my home away from home, UCLA Medical Center, trying to blend into one of the chairs in one of the waiting rooms in one of the three buildings of the Stein Eye Institute.

A muffin and me in Westwood Village.

The muffin looked good in the case but wasn't very good, so I won't mention the name of the place.

^^^ doesn't really work does it. That cardigan and shoes would work better with a patterned sportscoat and some casual trousers, probably pair with various brown shades. At least you gave it a try. Not everything will be a hit.

I keep trying to wear this suit causally. This time I paired it with a purple cardigan and a paisley bow tie. I went with purple socks and brown suede shoes to lower the formality. How’d I do?

I agree with the comment above, the outfit doesn't really work.

A suit is by definition a formal attire, I don't understand the need to casualize it, especially as you have a lot of better alternatives.

The brown suede shoes work somehow, cardigan and bowtie don't, in my eyes. I would try with a turtleneck sweater perhaps.

The weather in NYC is clear, sunny, but frigid - temperatures well below freezing. It is also a double-header day for dining - lunch with one pair of friends from out of town, and dinner with another - the theme is French - lunch at Le Bernardin, dinner at La Grande Boucherie.

In any case, the occasion has given me license to dress up. I've not worn today's overcoat since it was this cold last year (if that, even). Digging through the archives, this is today's attire.

Suit & braces - New & Lingwood
Shirt - Brooks Brothers
Tie, boots, & overcoat - Paul Stuart
Cufflinks - Deakin & Francis
Vintage watch chain
Pocket square - Harvie & Hudson
Scarf - Fortnum & Mason (from long, long ago)
Hat - Selentino

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
