The weather in NYC remains dry, but has cooled down to recognizable November temperatures, with some stiff breezes thrown in for good measure. I was invited for lunch at La Goulue this afternoon, after which I had a couple of errands to run, for all of which I decided to make myself look presentable. Today's suit is among my warmest, which was fortunate, as the wind made it feel a good deal colder than the temperatures recorded.
Suit - Brooks Brothers MTM
Shirt - Tyrwhitt
Tie - Charvet
Cufflinks - Deakin & Francis
Braces - Albert Thurston
Pocket square - Polo Ralph Lauren
Vintage watch chain
Shoes - Santoni

It was too cold and windy this morning a few blocks from the sea in Santa Monica to take my hands out of my pockets. Probably should have worn gloves. Later in the day it got warmer and the wind stopped blowing.

Brooks Brothers jacket and vest, Capas cap, L L Bean OCBD shirt and corduroy trousers, Lands' End tie, Sqarextraordinaire pocket square, and Allen-Edmonds suede shoes.

The wind blew all the clouds and fog away and you could see Malibu and Point Dume.

Sir Winston Churchill, a fireplace, a Coronation Chicken sandwich, and me in the smaller of the two dining rooms at Ye Olde King's Head in Santa Monica earlier today.

As often happens on sunny days the bright light pouring through the big window I am facing sort of washes me out and makes my hair look greyer than it is.

The weather in NYC is quite cool and dry - normal temperatures for November, without the usual wetness (which we need). This morning, I had occasion to attend a private tour of the latest exhibition at the Morgan Library, which is conveniently located near my home, and, for the occasion, I donned something other than my usual morning exercise attire. Here's what I wore, "apres le spectacle". Included in this set of photos is a quick shot of a jacket purchased for a party I am attending this weekend in Palm Springs - much different than my attire for a chilly NYC.

Sport jacket - Paul Stuart
Shirt - Lewin
Tie - Hilditch & Key
Cufflinks - Saks Fifth Avenue
Pocket square & trousers - Brooks Brothers
Shoes - Carmina
Linen jacket - Paul Stuart

Visible Pick Stitching on Lapels and Pockets

  • It’s a mark of quality and craftsmanship

  • I like it when it’s subtle

  • I don’t like visible stitching

  • Doesn’t matter to me
