Others do, but I have no issue with it.

dont try and tell me for a minute that that separated-tucked-into-your-pants-back-blade was not intentional.

@europrep - who makes that tie? great fit all around, btw.

Well, the knot is already in a half windsor, the back blade was at least 2 inches longer than the front. What else should I do?

(occassionally, steez and practicality align)

um. keep them even so you cant see the back blade at all. like you do 99.9% of the time in your pics. :)

meaning, you did this on purpose. ADMIT IT!!!

Even would mean the front blade hanging at least an inch below the pants' waistline. I went with the lesser of three evils (the one which is harded to notice and if noticed can be passed off as sprezz). The third evil being a full windsor.

But of course the tuck itself was intentional. The back blade didn't just slide into my pants on its own own accord. That **** doesn't happen, regardless of what you were trying to rationalize Thursday night.

Also, I have to tuck in at least a third of my fits. Y'all just dont see it

You can only do this if your ties happen to all be exactly the right length for your body or you like having your tie hang low (which almost no-one does and it certainly wouldn't be approved of here). But unless you are lucky enough to be a standard height or you get all your ties custom-made or altered, then you're going to have to tuck in the back blade sometimes or most of the time. I buy the shortest ties I can get my hands on but being only 165cm (5'5") tall, I still have to tuck with about 90% of them.

Since we're on the topic of the relative lengths of tie front/back blades, I'd like to hear more opinions. What do folks here prefer? Back blade 2" shorter than front, as Hober suggests? Both blades the same length, as Drake's suggests? Back blade longer than front, for a sprezzy look? Or just don't care?

A trivial detail, perhaps, but one I've been thinking about as I contemplate future tie purchases.

I like both blades the same length.

I'd think having it two inches shorter would be preferred. You don't see the back blade either way, so there is no difference, in terms of visibility, between two inches shorter and equal length. But with 2 inches shorter, you have more room to make a mistake when knotting and not have the back blade show.

I like 1-2" shorter not exactly the same length ... but as a reasonably short guy (5'7") not always possible with OTR... I have never had to tuck in as it somehow feels wrong to me, but I do have a couple of ties I dont often wear due to length (or at the least cannot wear with a regular FIH knot)

Generally, if I am wearing a non-bespoke tie in a 4IH with high waisted trousers, I need to tuck.
