He has evolved. Behold the fooizard.

Question is what comes next…

What the **** happened to you?

Have not worn a tie in many years. Have only worn a suit sparingly. Enjoying letting go of rigid adherence to traditional menswear and obsession with quality. Hard for me to even look at my old clothes without feeling a little embarrassed for how niche / costumey they have become (or maybe always were). Menswear is a self-reinforcing bubble.

Will tell you having done the bespokiest of bespoke (even traveling internationally for it) that life is a lot more fun this way. I feel a lot happier participating in current fashion and culture rather than smirking at them while I fuss with my HMS Victory pocket square.

If I’m being honest, wearing bespoke / classic menswear always required a level of “holier than thou” ego to withstand the fact that I was constantly dressing so far outside social norm. Not healthy.

Not wanting to spoil your joy in dressing more casual, everybody has to find his own style. I can't say that it's flattering for you though.

And, as I already said in another thread, I don't see classic menswear as a rigid system of rules to be followed, but a more elevated style which gives anybody the possibility to express his personality in different manners, as well as, if not more, casual wear.

Personally, I wear classic clothes because I find them so much nicer and more flattering, not in the least for feeling superior to other guys who dress differently.

I'm relatively new to CM - compared to you, anyway.

I often wear suits and t-shirts and jeans in the same week. It depends on what I feel like and what inspires or moves me. For me, my fits are a form of self-expression. To your point, most tailoring is outside of the social norm anyway.

I'm personally encouraged to see experienced folks like you experimenting and trying out radically different fits.

More power to you. ✊🏽

You say you don’t wear classic clothes to feel superior, yet in the same breath you say they are “so much nicer” and “a more elevated style”.

And so my point about living in a self-reinforcing bubble.

Yeah, I agree: important to not take clothing so seriously and try to force (or reinforce) a hierarchy.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
