I know that you have the midnight sun in the summer, and generally progressive attitudes towards people with same-sex partners, though my use of the word "gay" was in its original meaning of "happy", not "same-sex orientation.

Your characterization of Finland would give me pause to visit there - certainly would give me pause to combine all four of the elements that you mention (how would one keep one's vodka chilled in a sauna, anyway? No wonder one becomes melancholy . . .).

Am proud - and lucky - to be a citizen in a society that emphasizes equality.
When it comes to the Finlandia challenge try to not combine too much in too little time; vodka is best outside the sauna, as sharp knives, deposit both in the snow while you experience the moist and heat inside the timber walls.
There is a time for everything.
Best to spend one extra day for each day you planning to stay: need that for recover from hangovers.
Melancholy you need not worry about; sorrow will find you everywhere.

Thank you for the advice as to how to enjoy the pleasures of Finland - one at a time.

I do not worry about melancholy - I worry about being chronically annoyed - that is the difference between Scandinavians and New Yorkers .

Also, have no idea how my bottom button got buttoned

99% sure it happened because you buttoned it. Either that or your button became sentient and buttoned itself because it felt left out.

I dont want to spread any prejudice about Finland (and we of course have several Finnish contributors in this thread), but I'm reminded about the time when some Finnish friends invited me to become an honourary Finn for a day and celebrate their national day (6th December). When I arrived to the party I was informed that no one can enter without drinking a glass of Finnish wine. It turned out to be a wineglass filled to the brim with vodka, and you had to drink it in one go. The party ended after lunch the day after (which explained why my friends insisted that I took the day off from work on the 7th). I have very sketchy memories of that night, but I was invited again the next year so I guess I did ok...

That may or may not have been a remarkable task, depending on the wine glass involved. If it was a Bordeaux glass then I am duly impressed.

Not sure it was a Bordeaux glass, but it was certainly a full sized glass for red wine.

I've had similar drinking experiences with my native Russian/Ukrainian friends. To say I can't hang is an understatement.

Russians are on a whole other level. Drinking is basically a weekend thing for most Finns.

Also, I should mention that I know as many teetotalers as I know binge drinkers. Because, you know, all or nothing.

My liver just fainted at the recounting of that tale, but then again, I am among the world's "cheapest dates" - and I also like to wake up the next morning not hung over. I must be no fun whatsoever . . . .;)

I think with age either the liver, weight or stomach takes too much damage and forces a change of behaviour for quite a few people. That and marriage - almost all the drinkers I knew who got hitched stopped drinking roughly around then.

@Yaumegui interesting tie, Guards colours but the wider spacing makes it clear it isn't regimental.

@Hal Freeman thanks for the comments. Yes, one button jacket. Some English makers have traditionally favoured this style. Regrettably a lot of Jasper Conran's stuff today has deteriorated both in terms of cut and quality.
Perhaps this picture shows the jacket cut a little better:

Just another brick in the wall and the last glimps of summer befor nocturnal night again regins.

Loving the button one jackets mates.

Interesting socks @Roy Al.

@Mr Knightly, you said something about the suit being 5 years old? Looking pretty good!
