Thanks Stitchy.

Love Patrick's suit today. Brown tie and white shirt always looks off to me I think a blue (or pink or red) striped shirt would have been better there. But that's picking nits.

Ah I see, thanks for the info!

Fully agree with them being snazzy!

Thank you. Here's a pic of Bonnie Prince Charlie with some bird, wearing matching safari outfits.

Also, I gave some incorrect information before. You can actually get long-sleeved safari jackets/suits. Roger Moore wore one as James Bond.

Good references and good to know!

I've only been exposed to Safari suits through Moore's take on Bond. That is why I assumed that full-sleeved versions existed, but it's nice to see Prince Charles in one to. Was the Safari suit not derived from some sort of military uniform, yes?

edit: If I remember correctly, did he not wear it as a suit with a tie and as a standalone shirt like shown above?

Good question about the origins. I'm no historian, but I imagine it was adapted from the actual clothing used by early Western explorers of Africa.

Now, it's entirely possible that those outfits were themselves adapted from military uniforms - perhaps Boer war era?

Clearly they are functional, with multiple large vented button-closure pockets. The material is porous and thus suitable for hot/humid environments.

The 1970s craze for safari suits was just another example of the recycling or re-interpretation of previously functional uniforms to suit the purposes of mass-produced fashion.

Like plus-fours, they will probably never come fully back into vogue. But hey, guys wear capes to Pitti. So who knows. I'm doing my own small part.

Trying photos from the same vantage point as yesterday, and trying to adjust the lighting temperature to something cooler than the very yellow lights of the nearest chandelier.

Señor Crust, the new apartment looks wonderful, but the lighting situation for your fit pics has taken a nosedive. Ultimately, I think you've made the right tradeoff, but...

:)

I have made the right trade-off, and the lighting situation will correct itself with the onset of spring, when the plentiful natural light will spill into the apartment and illuminate me and the clothes properly.

In the interim, I've done what I can to color-correct the photos taken with too-yellow light bulbs.
