What's with the safety pins being stuck through lapels, ties, etc?

southernstyle, you might not have noticed but there is a safety pin stuck in your ties. Better remove it before it hurts a kitten!

O, how quickly they forget.

Back when Phat Guido did it everybody swooned, which is what inspired me to post this sprezz masterpiece in one of our weekly challenges:

I'm stunned that it hasn't caught on.

I think I would prefer the incongruity of a safety pin over a tie bar or tie clip. I wear neither, but if it did (and didn't already own a bar), I'd ask for recommendations as to where one gets high end safety pins.

It is actually a sterling silver collar pin from Ralph Lauren that comes in handy for my club collars as well. I prefer it over a tie bar personally but different strokes for different folks.

Orgetorix, I really like the fit of the jacket and the jacket in general, and I think the shirt works well with it. I think the flower clashes a bit with the texture and style of the jacket, though. Also, it seems as if the top-half of the outfit is at odds with the bottom half. Without the jacket the blues would look boring but fine. With the jacket, the cuffed pants seem a bit formal and the loafers seem a little dark. Are the pants are navy (can't tell, might be dark grey?)? I would go with shoes in browns or burgundy to tie in the browns of the jacket, even though some conservative people dislike the idea of navy trousers with brown shoes. P.S., your PS looks like it's drowning.

Apologies for the disheveled pants, pic taken after a plane and cab ride. Textures etc are hard to tell from the crappy shot, so details below.

Grey Canali flannel trousers
White/light blue fine striped Barba shirt
Brown silk knit Caruso tie
Brown suede Corneliani belt

southernstyle, I'm sure you've been asked this before, so I apologize. What's with the safety pins being stuck through lapels, ties, etc?

Google "blanket pin" and you can have them in your choice of lengths. Cheap.

PG's safety pin was cool because it was $1000 if I recall correctly. :sarcasm:
