The no loafers with suits is outdated. It was that way, but not anymore.
I still think it depends on the suit. If it's a casual suit, OK. But you shouldn't wear them with very formal business suits for the same reason you shouldn't wear flip flops in that situation...
It's done every single day with formal suits in manhattan, by thousands.

I see it everyday around here too, but I still don't think that makes it right. If lots people started wearing sneakers with a business suit would that make it right?
