Why would anyone buy jeans that look worn? I want my jeans to be perfect when I buy them. And when they develope any creases, fading or wear I throw them away for a new pristine pair. Otherwise you look like some poseur hipster. "Hey look at me, I just paid $500 for these jeans that make me look like I actually work and wore them out just like the plumber"

So, we are now dressing like the very people we try to dress "above"!

That's a royal "we," isn't it.

I wear jeans that go from extra dark to extra faded white. By being extra authentically faded to look like authentic jeans, like those worn by the people I'm trying to dress "above," am I dressing "above" them by trying to authentically dress like them or am I only dressing like them?

Because I hope that everyone that's trying to dress "above" the people we are trying to dress "above" by wearing raw dark jeans will recognise that I'm succeeding in dressing "above" those people, not that I'm dressing like them.

Well, it's this simple: Dark indigo looks navy; light indigo looks light blue. You can, then, use these in your colour palettes. Colour is colour is colour. It's that simple.
