Grandfather Clocks

Anyone know anything about Grandfather Clocks?

I inherited a Daneker and it's pretty nice but certainly not my style. I thought about selling it but what are they worth? Also, each clock has an inscription of the original owner (my relative).

I've kept the clocks I've inherited from my grandparents. They're not my style either but I like hanging on to the history of it all. I like the clean lines on your clock.

FWIW, the last time I was in a clock shop, the grandfathers were all four-figures but marked down heavily. If it were mine, I'd tuck it away in a corner somewhere and hang on to it, but that's just me.

I like it..real retro. Does it chime? $$ likely boils down to the quailty of the movement inside like a wrist wtch.

My grandmother had one and loved it. My father had to turn the key when he would visit because she was too weak in her old age to do it herself.

As a kid I took a field trip to a company that made them in Tennessee. I forget the company name though.

Yes, it chimes. You can only see one of the three weights hanging in the door of the clock but there are three. One of the weights is for the clock operation and the other two are for the chimes. To make it run one just pulls the chains to raise the weights and then gravity keeps the clock running. It's purely mechanical.

It's almost impossible to find any information about it on the web but I still have the original paperwork.
