What is the turnaround time for a CdL suit, and how many fittings typically (for you as an existing client)?

I only have one CdL, and if memory serves we are talking 4 fittings over a 2-3 month period.

Of course, I do not count the myriad number of times I went back later for geeky alterations, for which they always kindly obliged, in the purest bespoke tradition. I'm even talking dry cleaning here.

Wow. I have never heard of that before. They really are on a level by themselves.

I will be in Paris for a month. I wonder if they could do me a suit. Cifonelli said they can shorten the usual three months for me. Time to make enquiries.

Maybe not for dry cleaning but many tailors will press your suit for you after making.

It will be interesting because basically I am in Paris for a few days then I go away for three weeks then Paris again for a week at the end.

I suppose they will have to get a fitting in before I disappear the first time.

They tell me they can do it and I will be crushed if I get there and they can't.

For Cifo, I think it will depend on how close the first fitting is. Lorenzo has in the past made pretty significant alterations to a jacket overnight in a hotel room in New York City, but that is after my pattern was pretty good.

I really don't understand why someone would take this approach, or why a tailor would agree to work under such conditions. Why add time constraints to the process?

Yes Cifonelli can do great work but **** happens. For example, on the last suit that they made for me there were fit issues (e.g., wonky shoulders) and it needed to be returned twice for alterations. It was my 3rd suit with them without any requested changes to the pattern or any shortened delivery time....

^Because people have time constraints to their lives. It takes a certain amount of time to make a suit. I think all Dandy is asking them to do is prioritize his suit of those of others. That doesn't mean that any less time will be spent on his suit or that the conditions under which it is made will be any worse.

Is a month really that unreasonable? I think most Italian tailors would be willing to do this no problem. Not that that means the French should have to.

I don't think it has anything to do with nationality. It probably depends on how busy the tailor is, where the fabric is and how many fittings a client needs. And speaking about it as "a month" misses the point. Dandy is going to be in Paris for a few days over the course of a month. The question is whether the amount of time in the days when he will be there is sufficient to make necessary adjustments so that the suit is complete before he leaves at the end of the month.

CARACENI Roma did this for me twice (in three weeks). What it necessitated was my going to them the day I landed and then scheduling in advance all the fittings. In the first case, they then mailed the suit. In the second, I was able to take it with me.
