Too bad they don't implement this kind of dress code in Swedish banks. People within retail banking in Sweden are dressed kind of sloppy if one compares to the Swiss standards.

spent some time with some (real) UBS bankers yesterday. All except one were wearing Hermes ties, i was kind of making fun of them mentally for being such sheep until after a while i looked down and realized there was one more sheep in the room

To be honest, i don't understand what the fuss is all about. I wish companies did a little more to educate their employees on how to dress at work.

banking practices..assuming you mean risk management?? So what they're doing now as per Basel II is minimum capital requirements as a percentage of risk weighted assets, and also as a percentage of equity capital.

Hermes ties with their childish animal prints should not be worn to work. They can relieve their childhood fetishes in private. +1 to UBS dress code document

Aye, until next time. The banks can say what the **** they want because nobody believes them any more. So, I'm afraid you're wasting your breath.

UBS bankers are not the same as UBS retail bank employees. I feel like being dressed well almost does you a disservice in America, so they should probably keep this to Europe.

It's funny you say that Skinny, I was thinking the same thing. Dress well and people will assume you're ripping someone off.

Well, I am. And I usually like to feel and look good while I'm at it.

That was a mistake in the english translation. The original french indicates that you shouldn't wash or iron your own ties. I don't think the code is bad at all, in fact it's all in keeping with the advice on this forum. With the notable exception of only wearing black shoes. As for all the griping about the banking industry in general, I think that now more than ever it's important for employees to present themselves appropriately, seriously, soberly. Any peacocking would be in poor taste considering the financial hardships that most clients now face. And anything less than what's delineated in the dress code would seem unprofessional. I'd be very interested to get my hands on the revised version. Hopefully it's not been relaxed too much.

On a tangentially-related sartorial dress-code note, I hear Angela Merkel has instructed all her members of parliament to wear jacket & tie to parliament. I also hear a green or lefty got kicked out of parliament for not putting on a tie. Seems like it's not just Swiss bankers cracking down any more...

retail?? ppl in retail are poor. UBS is an investment bank - trading firm...you cant expect this realistically. from anybody in retail.

given how much money they make (UBS), this dress code is nothing over the top for a Front Office employee.

the guide was intended for UBS RETAIL employee in Switzerland (hence why it's in french).

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
