Fit check - is the jacket too big?

The answer is yes, the real question is how bad is it? I already took the jacket in and adjusted the sleeves. At the tailor it looked great but now I have second guesses. What do you think? It only really shows up when I close the jacket and have my arms in front of me.

So, would you say this is unacceptable or just a minor issue that only experts here will judge me on?

This is a Chester Barrie MTM (?) suit from 2001 that I got off ebay for a funny price.

Thank you! IMG_20241119_185044.jpg IMG_20241120_113104.jpg

Where the shoulder meets the arm seems a tad big. The coat length is also a little long. Both easily fixable. The sleeves are slightly short but nothing to sweat about. Have you consulted a tailor?

I already took it to a tailor, and I was happy with it.. but now I look at it again and I'm not sure. Yeah, it's certainly a bit too long. And yes, it's fixable, but I don't want to bring it to the tailor again. Do you think it's really bad or a small issue?

It is long is a stylistically long manner, not an inherently incorrect manner. I can imagine this feels impossible long if one's point of reference is something like Suit Supply, which may well might be 2-3 inches shorter in some of their cuts in the same size.

This has more of a length and buttoning point where things are likely going than not. You might be able to reduce the length of the coat by .25-.5 inches without throwing the proportions off, but the cost benefit of doing that is likely not good when the piece doesn't inherently need it.

Thank you! Yes, my point of reference is Cavour which is more slim. So I'll leave it as is for now and see of this continues to bother me or I get used to it.

It's a medium-sized issue, in my opinion. If you see the jacket is a bit too long, then you should shorten it. Why don't you want to take it back to the tailor?

I genuinely have no idea where everyone is coming from. A jacket should end roughly halfway from the collar to the floor, while also covering the rear. I feel your legs would look disproportionately long with a shorter jacket.

Maybe you could see it better in these pics? The jacket is also too roomy in the front i feel but that's hard to show

I think you have a classically sized suit. If you want to be more contemporary, you can modify the jacket length, but that can usually throw off the balance of the jacket. I don't see any excessive space. Are you used to very contemporary slim cuts?

I guess so! Thanks for the input.
