SF is full of all sorts of nerds, you'd be surprised at the variety of hobbies and interests that SF brings together.

Condensed fonts are huge right now. That being said I love trade gothic, futura, avenir... I guess garamond is my go-to serif.

Courier New for work.
Helvetica for signs.
Terminal for f**king around.
Comic Sans never.

Apercu by Colophon Foundry. Scala Sans. Klavika and others by Process Type. Andrew from Samuelstype. Dereon by Porchez Typofondrie. Unica. Textaxis fonts. Augereau would be my favorite serif.

I've always been interested in fonts, typefaces, esp the design work of the 30's-50's, the influences of the modernists etc...

We're remodeling the exterior of our home (which is 50's but by no means modernist) and gave a nod to Neutra:

I really like these: http://www.houseind.com/fonts/neutraface
