It's the Best Time of the Year for Custom Shirts

We've loaded 40 new swatches into our custom shirting program with Individualized! They're broken out into two categories, each of which have a quick description below.

But we've also got three points to entice you into some beautiful new shirts! For all orders placed by Friday, November 15th, we're offering:

1) 15% off all custom shirts with code: shirt15

2) If you buy FIVE shirts, you'll receive ONE of them for free. Buy all 5 at the same time, and we'll refund the lowest price shirt after your order is submitted.

You can stack this with the shirt15 code!

3) Your order will ship by mid-December, for your receipt before the end of the year. Things get clogged with this deadline, so the earlier you order, the better!

My Alfargo’s jacket just arrived! My initial impressions:

A couple nits:
  • I asked for an extra inch in length, and the back is just under a half inch shorter than expected, which is unfortunately just short enough that a bunch of my shirt tails barely peak under the back of the jacket. I know this is within the margin for error for such a heavy fabric, but still a bit frustrating for the OCD engineer inside me
  • The olive liner is a great color and perfectly functional, but I was expecting a somewhat more luxe, smooth lining. I think Alfargo’s advertised the lining as being silk, which doesn’t seem to be accurate.
But:
  • The 18oz tweed fabric is really incredible. Warm, easy to match with almost all of my shirts and sweaters, but still super textured and distinctive
  • Because the fabric is so heavy, it drapes really well and the collar stands up perfectly on its own.
  • Length aside, the fit is perfect! Per Eva's advice I sized up to a 44, and there's enough room to layer a heavy flannel or sweatshirt, without being too roomy on its own over a t-shirt.

This feels like a super functional jacket, overall I'm happy with my purchase!

Will there be a re-stock of the Camel/Ecru alpaca blanket?

Ah sorry no.. in fact I'm having a tough time getting the stock for our existing orders against it. They're searching for the inventory in Peru, but we might have to sub those orders for the Grey one. I'll know for sure by tomorrow.

Thank you so much for the write-up! I appreciate the honesty too, it's good to hear real feedback.

Yes, your jacket was a about 0.6" longer than spec. So we run two production lines... stock and custom. Custom is cut individually with scissors, Stock is cut with a big spinning blade, like an automatic pizza cutter. Custom is a lot more labor intensive, which is why our MTO Doyles are about $75 more thant he stock ones.

I was hoping to accomodate your request without doing the single unit cut and having to ask for an upcharge, but it's not as precise.. especially with a thick fabric like that donegal. There is a margin of error, and I appreciate your understanding on it.

For the liner... sorry for the confusion. It's a blend of rayon and polyester. On the site, I just listed it as "heavyweight." Apologies if anyone said that it was silk. But this blend is pretty standard for a tweed coat.. even our high end fabrics at RTC are still either all rayon (bemberg) or a rayon blend. This was just a thicker, more rugged version.. meant to give more insulation and stand up to the friction of that thick fabric. It should give you years of solid wear!

And speaking of your jacket, I got some great pics of the sample with an Alfargos hat that we made here. Bit hard to see the true color in this shadowed light, but I dig it styled with a hoodie underneath...

Yeah that makes sense. I probably wouldn’t have ordered the jacket at all without some extra length. In theory I might have been willing to pay the extra cost for precise cutting, but at some point it starts to become a difficult purchase sight unseen if I can’t return it after trying it on. So this was probably the right tradeoff.

Maybe if I was doing it again I would have asked for a bit over an inch to make sure I got all the additional length but I'm sure it'll stop bugging me pretty quickly lol. It really is a nice jacket.

Out of curiosity, if you had chosen to use a bemberg lining instead of the thicker poly/rayon blend, how much would that have added to the cost?

Maybe $40 to $50. But the liner decision was also part of the overall concept. As it stands, the jacket is about $200 less than Engineered Garments, $300 or so less than Drakes. Even though it's not inexpensive, the Alfargos guys wanted to make sure that it was a great value compared to the other stuff at this level of cloth and construction. This liner was strong, textured, and pretty affordable. Will keep you warm too!

Is the kamigata jacket meant to be worn as a slim-fitting style or roomier?

I think that the pattern sizing works really well. It's a bit looser than our other garments in, but still more tailored than the usual Noragi.

But if you're choosing between sizing up or down, I'd say to size up. It looks better with a slouchy fit than a tight one IMO. And it's easy to simply turn back the cuff if it's long on you.
