Bought the firemans turncoat jacket about two months ago and completely love it. But with not much wear and tear -- I work in an office -- one button receptor has fallen off and two rivuts have also fallen off.

WTF?!?

Really dissapointed with this. I thought the whole point of EG beside the excellent design, was quality construction. I feel like writing an email to the japanese dude who owns the company. Anyone have any other advice.

BTW, been to two tailors already in nyc today and they dont want to know nothing...

I am sure that Daiki will fix the problem for you. He is really conscientious about stuff like that.

Do you (or anyone) have an email where I could direct this problem? Or is it just contact us or customer service on the EG website?

Anamoly,

I feel your pain. No problem with the fix, EG stands behind everything they sell. We actually had a rivet come off one of our Turn Out coats and they fixed it in a matter of a day or two. Send the coat to Angelo at Engineered Garments, 119 West 25th Street, New York, NY, 10001 and include your name, address and phone # and he will have it done the day it arrives and overnight it back to you. He is aware of the return and apologises for the defect.

Best Regards,

Gary

Gary,

I wrote Angelo an email today and he confirmed what you said here. Thanks for the help.

OT: Could someone be so kind as to direct me to a pic of said fireman's turncoat jacket? (I have a thing for fireman's jackets.)

Just another data point, I've been wearing the same coat, bought from Gary, for about a month now. Absolutely love it, absolutely no problems. Tough as nails so far.

To reinforce EG's commitment to quality, I had a snap button come off of the fishing jacket and contacted customer service (Angelo Urrutia) for a fix. He offered to have me send the garment in to get fixed, but I was impatient and asked if they could send me a couple buttons for replacement. Couple days later i received a package with 30 or so EG snap buttons and I easily had my local tailor fix the problem for a couple bucks.

I had a button fall off my bedford before I even wore it, which I fixed myself. But it's good to know the customer service is so recpetive.

Speaking of which, I've had buttons come lose or fallen off on almost every jacket that I've frequently worn. This ranges from cheap H&M garments to Dior Homme and Margiela.

Can someone show me an example of nearly indestructible button attachment?

You just have to do it right. Generally, once I sew a button onto something, it's never coming off unless it's cut. But this method takes a little longer and takes knowing how to do it, and can't be done by machine, so it's not common on mass produced garments.

I sewed the two buttons that I usually use back onto my peacoat probably 4-5 years back and have worn it hundreds of times since and they're not going anywhere.

I was actually thinking of putting together a little article with pics on how to do it, but there probably is one somewhere.

Here: http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com/20...to-sew-on.html

He reeeeeeeeally needs to cut his fingernails. Gross. Anyway, I finish it by stabbing through the shank instead of what they call cast-off, and I tie it through the shank a couple of times to make good and sure it's not going anywhere. I also sew in an X pattern so that if any of the outer threads are damaged, it will hold, plus it looks better.

First, I'm very impressed with the reception from EG and will definetly continue to be a customer.

But there is -- or should be -- a difference between buttons falling off of an HM jacket and an EG jacket. Especially after only 3 months of mild use. I have jackets that are three years old from brands which are much less expensive and they've held up. I think that my situation WAS anamolous and I continue to have faith in the EG brand because the design is superior and the commitment to quality is there.

you know, these things happen sometimes despite quality and price

i've purchased any number of higher end dress shirts or whatever only to have the buttons fall off or seams come undone after one wear or one wash and i often ask myself that for the amount of money i'm spending, you'd think something as simple as sewing on a button would be done better ....... but i've just mellowed out about it over the years and taken it for what it is, **** happens

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
