I know i sound like a troll here, but hear me out.

So i don't wear ties much currently, and I don't want to spend too much on them. Yet I couldn't get my ****** $15 ties to hold a dimple, and I got inventive today as I was having my photo taken:

I pulled it apart a little to show the binder inside, it was completely hidden before

This is obviously not a long-term solution, since the binder will eventually ruin the tie. But I don't wear ties much and when I do, it's usually for short periods.

So what do you guys think - does this work for now?

Don't look bad from the pic to be honest.
Maybe from the side all of your rigging will be found out so don't wear it out like that unless it is quite flat against your shirt and hidden
in which case, have at it.

You must have fear of being named a dimple troll after that other recent post on the subject, eh?

It was actually completely hidden inside the knot, I pulled it out for the second picture. The clip makes the knot bulge out perpendicularly from my chest a little more than usual, but it isn't really noticeable and it helped push the tie outward. two birds.

And yes, bad timing on that other post so i decided to put a troll disclaimer. Just so you know - I was having my photo taken for a club in college, not with CEOs/world leaders/the Pope :D

Is this worse than a clip-on tie or does it occupy some odd middle ground?

I'd give it a middle ground status as it's interesting (in general, not sartorially).

It does make the knot a little big, and the dimple isn't that natural looking (though you may have primed me against it). The dimple reminds me of those I see on the pre-tied slip-string ties that are sadly popular here.

Still, many life points for being innovative.

If you are not meeting CEOs in N. America you should not even be allowed to post.
Especially about tie dimples.

And I think the dimple is really fine(not saying it is an ideal knot/dimple,the latter better than the former, neither best in show) for a front on pic.
You know the limitations of your chicanery and realize the pop in one dimension is there but not so noticeable from directly on
and thus will not bring this tie and trapping to any soiree.
I say, good job on being creative with a fair enough looking result. And you know better than to do that when you are an adult out in the world meeting up with SF's finest.
Or a CEO.
