Op needs to stop shopping at the mall or Men's Wearhouse/Warehouse.

On a somewhat related note, I do like this.

http://www.valetmag.com/the-mix/0328...ndex1_top_lead

"The wider lapel, when referenced these days, is simply the classic width that has been around forever," says Shimon and Ariel Ovadia, the twin brothers behind the brand. "It's never really left and we prefer classic. It's a good feeling when you can reach into your closet in twenty years and your clothes are still in style."

I would imagine there have been few points in history where RTW suits were more consistently tailored for the obese then today.

Well, that point is now, at least in the US.

I dont think this problem is ubiquitous with just fat men. Any man with broad shoulders and big chest will have a serious problem fitting a modern suit. You should probably either slim down or go Bespoke route and accept that you and OTR suits are unlikely to be a good match. Besides, at no time in the history of suit making has a suit ever looked flattering on those particularly lumpen.

Well - Built fat man is indeed possible. I used to train with a power lifter, guy looked like a beach ball on legs. But stick him on the bench press, and he would clear 500LB's as if it were a blob of tenuous gasses. Beneath those layers of fat, serious muscles existed.

I used to play rugby with guys as high as large and they were fit ...

The BMI in their cases was irrelevant...

Believe me ,they could run for a full 80 minutes , tackle and sprint ..
