I picked up this corduroy jacket. The material is really nice, but I’m slightly unsure of the collar and style. Can anyone offer opinions on this?

A mish-mash of styles that doesn't work very well. The collar and button layout are from an overshirt or chore coat. The pockets, the length and the way the quarters are shaped are from a sport coat.

I think it's a nice jacket but it's nearly two sizes too big for you. And unless you were planning on wearing it with several heavy layers underneath it would be uncomfortably draughty for that reason.

I think it’s my size but it’s designed as a slightly oversized kind of fit with longer than normal sleeves. One strange thing is that the style of it draws inspiration from blazers, so an observer would tend to think it’s too big using that standard. I do like styling a hooded sweatshirt under it.

It seems fine to me. The sleeves are arguably a bit long, but it’s a chore coat which is meant to have a relaxed oversized fit. It’s not your wedding suit. We can’t really judge the waist fit, which could be really baggy. But as you say it basically fits, we must assume the waist is not tailored for an enormous person.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
