Went to a tiny shop/showroom that specializes in POMO stuff here and the current rotation was all Sottsass.

The one that stuck out to me the most was the Diva mirror - it’s both super well executed but feels so specifically of the time in a way only things that use newish technology can. Like the low quality of the print on the laminate is so specific that it adds to it rather than take away, and makes it feel like something that couldn’t be done again today.

I don't think the world's ready for Memphis again just yet. People talk about something being timeless, but almost nothing is. Memphis seems as much 'of its time' (like you mention) as American Gigolo, Miami Vice, Jeff Koons, Bright Lights/Big City, Less Than Zero, 9 1/2 Weeks... they were good times, but ... sorry, I forgot what I was going to say.

Oh I meant of it's time in terms of craft, not design aesthetic. The make is clearly very high when handling everything but, to use the same example as earlier, the quality of the print on the printed laminate is really, really low. You can kind of see here if you look at the full image:

And I was just commenting that's more what makes it feel so specific in a way that couldn't be reproduced today. (I say, as I got that image from the memphis website where you can apparently still buy a new one. I eat my words.)

My son, at 1,5 years old is opinionated, stubborn and at times quite obsessive with stuff. He is using words, and I’ll teach him to type soon enough.

That way he can get an account here in about a year or so. Should fit right in.

Bit of a weird question I know, but would anyone by chance have any recommendations for a chair I could buy that’s similar to this one Bruce Campbell was sitting in on this episode of Psych?

What the world needs is a new approach to design rather than rehashing period pieces. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of truly new, interesting, creative. Designers are simply dipping into the past. That being said, authentic period pieces are great. We love the juxtaposition of antiques with contemporary.

Must design be “new” to be good? I don’t agree with discouraging thoughtful iteration and evolution. For example, Jasper Morrison’s work is excellent, and yet no one would ever claim it is wholly “‘new”.

Stewart Hicks says that architectural style has a 40 year period before it becomes outdated, but will eventually come back and possibly becomd timeless.
