Contrast color thread in dress shirts?

Does anyone here do contrast color thread on buttons and buttonholes on dress shirts by default? Imagine a medium blue shirt with dark navy blue thread on the buttonholes, and to sew the buttons to contrast against mother of pearl buttons. Or, imagine a blue/white striped shirt with dark blue thread for the button holes and to sew buttons on.

I find it very distracting and it seems to be an Asian thing, but does anyone do it? Or should one absolutely forbid one's tailor from doing it for formal shirts?

It's tacky. I see it a lot on guys who wear not-quite-dress shirts open collar with suits (wannabe Wall St. guys who peaked around '97), and I did see it a lot in Shanghai.

That said, it's a bit less tacky than colorful plastic buttons that match the shirt (pink buttons on pink shirt, that kinda thing).

I do it and I wouldn't say it's tacky. It's a subtle detail, and I usually do it for a shirt that will match with a particular suit that coordinates.

But no way in hell I would do it for a formal shirt.

Well I'd love for you to purchase something; however being a new company, we're just looking for people to check us out and maybe share your discovery.

A bit late to the party ... so what's new. I usually come to Style Forum for return visits via Internet searches.

I've never done it with shirts, but I have a velvet coat in bright navy and the sleeve button holes are RED. I bought it to wear to my niece's wedding. It was a winter wedding with very rich colors and she encouraged it. All night I imagined that my sleeve button holes (very British red) were at war with the coat (Continental Army blue). ;)

I have to admit, I wore it that once and since then it has been in the closet. Ah, what I won't do for a wedding. Maybe it's time to put it on eBay.

was the jacket expensive? do you like it except for the buttonholes?
It might take a bit of work to find the correct person, but the buttonholes could be removed and restitched!

It’s a decent ISAIA. I’ll have to consider that.

Puget Sound area and La Jolla

I'll be giving it thought. If I change it, will I wear it?
